WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE PAINTINGS

Top-50 most expensive paintings of the world (as of February 2015) on the results of the auctions and private sales.
Ranking is based on the current appraised value of the paintings.
The market capitalization of the paintings included in the Top-50, is $ 5 551.300 million. The average price of one painting is $ 111.026 million.

Top-50 includes only ever sold privately owned paintings. Many canvases in public museums are realy "priceless", as they are not objects of sales and their cost usually correlates only to the cost of insurance, that is constantly growing. According to data published in 2012, the insurance of the painting "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci was defined in $ 765 million.

In early February 2015 the famous Swiss collector Rudolf Staechelin sold one of his collection rarities - painting  "When you marry? (Nafea Faa Ipoipo)" by Paul Gauguin. The name of the buyer and the selling price is not disclosed. Under the contract, the picture will be given to the new owner in January 2016. According to experts, the deal amounted to about $ 300 million , and the buyer is probably the emirate of Qatar. Previously, the emirate of Qatar has acquired well-known paintings "The Card Players" by Paul Cezanne for more than $ 250 million, "Child with Dove" by Pablo Picasso for $ 77 million, "White Center" of Mark Rothko over $ 72,8 million.
